EPA Comment Period to End Soon
On October 7th, the EPA comment period on the newly proposed Atrazine registration decision will close. This summer EPA proposed an ultra-low concentration equivalent level of concern at 3.4 parts per billion, this would have devastating impacts on farmers and drastically change the way you use Atrazine. EPA has proposed this ultra-low level in the past, but it was not supported by credible science and was even rejected by EPA’s own scientific advisory panel. If EPA’s proposed registration decision is approved over 70% of U.S. corn acres will be impacted and EPA itself estimates losing atrazine could cost farmers at least $42/acre.
Atrazine has been on the market for over 60 years and has been studied more than any other herbicide proving to have a long safety record. We launched an action request this summer to urge EPA to follow the science and not remove this useful tool from farmers toolbox. The comment period will close in one week, if you have not submitted a comment yet, click HERE to act.
