From the President:
Last week, we welcomed the National Farmers Union (NFU) of England & Wales to Illinois. This relationship started over a year ago, with plans to meet with the NFU during last year’s Market Study Tour in Europe and the UK. Unfortunately, that trip was cut short so an in-person meeting with the NFU couldn’t happen. Despite that, our staff and leaders set up virtual calls over the last year and recognized that there were many more conversations to be had. After BREXIT, many farmers in England and Wales feel lost as the UK government figures out how to craft an agricultural system that achieves climate-related goals and supports their farmers.
IFB staff and leaders led the NFU on a tour of Illinois agriculture, demonstrating ag technology and the diversity of our farms and crops. They also took a deep dive into federal and state regulations, and the way Farm Bureau works with government leaders and agencies to support our farmers. These international relationships are important to us in agriculture, so we can continue leading the conversation on practical and sustainable ways to support food production and protect the environment into the future.
