The following is a statement from Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert, Jr., regarding USDA’s announcement of a second round of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP).
“Illinois Farm Bureau appreciates a second round of USDA coronavirus food assistance to make it through the market impacts of this ongoing pandemic. Today’s announcement of CFAP 2 comes at a critical time for Illinois farmers entering harvest and an eighth consecutive year of depressed farm income, increased market pressures and below breakeven prices.
“USDA is releasing an additional $14 billion dollars for farmers who continue to face market disruptions and associated costs because of COVID-19. Our thanks go to President Trump, Secretary Perdue and Congress for their leadership in making this round of disaster assistance available.
“Illinois farmers eligible for assistance may visit their county USDA office as soon as September 21 to complete signup for direct payments. Signup will run through Dec. 11, 2020. We encourage our members to visit farmers.gov/cfap for additional information and application forms.”
