Statement from the Illinois Farm Bureau regarding
proposed Progressive Income Tax in the Illinois Senate
The following is a statement from Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) President Richard Guebert Jr. regarding the proposed Progressive Income Tax bill in the Illinois Senate.
“With the expectation of our state senators taking the first step of putting on the ballot a proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution in November 2020 to allow a progressive income tax, we are calling on farmers across the state to call their state senator to let them know we oppose this.
“We have had a long-held position that a flat rate income tax is the preferred method in Illinois. Our concern is this opens the door for the General Assembly to have the ability to raise rates again, if approved by voters in November 2020.
“I am asking farmers to please call their state senator by dialing 888-200-3794, enter in your zip code, and you will be directed to your state senator’s district office. We are simply asking that you encourage your state senator to vote “NO” on SJRCA 1.
“We need to have our voices heard loud and clear that a progressive income tax is not the best way to tax hard-working Illinoisans."
