The operators AND and OR
can be used. If words are separated by commas or spaces, it will assume
the OR operator.
Use quotation marks around specific
phrases you wish to locate. Typing in "crop damage" will
assure results where the words are found adjacent to each other. Without
the quotation marks the results will show documents where either or both
words appear, even if they are not close to one another in the text.
The search mechanism is not case
sensitive. Typing in the phrase "farMer" will yield the same
results as "farmer".
Advanced
Search: There is an advanced search feature that allows you to
refine your search if you are not satisfied with your initial
results. You will find it below your search results.
Selecting the "Search Description
Only" checkbox will only use the document's description field during
the search, otherwise the search will also include the document's title
and keywords.
Selecting a dropdown topic in the
"quickfind" or a check box in the advanced search page
will allow the user to confine the search to the topic selected. If the
default "Search Entire Site" is selected, the entire site will be
searched.
Entering dates in the "Publication
Date Ranges" and selecting "Before", "After", or
"Between" checkboxes will search against the publication date
entered for the document. Likewise, date criteria entered for the
"Posted Date Ranges" will search against the timestamp created
by the system when the document was first uploaded by the user.
Many documents on this web site have files attached that you can
download. Attached files can be found near the bottom of the
document.
Depending
on the browser you are using and the security levels
you have set, the document will either automatically open on your
computer, or you will be given the choice to view the document or save it
to your computer.
If the document automatically opens,
go to the "file" menu on the top of the application that is
running, and choose "save as" to save the file to your computer.
Be sure to make a note of the file name and the location where you direct
the computer to save the file. (Many people like to save all downloaded
files to their "Desktop" to make it simpler to find them
later.)
If you are given the choice to save or
open the document, click on the "save" option. Windows
will open a dialogue box and give you the choice where to save the file.
Be sure to make a note of the location you choose to save the file in
(many people save all downloaded files to their "Desktop"
to make it simpler to find them later. If you don't have the proper
software to view the file, you can find a link to a free viewer download
from the software owner that will allow you to open the file. This
viewer will change, depending on file type. Downloading viewer
program can be time consuming at slow internet connection speeds.
