International Study Tours
Illinois Farm Bureau is a strong advocate for trade and the importance of improving access to foreign markets for American goods and services – including agricultural products. IFB and its members are also keen observers of agriculture in foreign markets so that we may glean appropriate lessons to improve our own competitiveness.
In 2001, IFB developed its own international study tour program to help Illinois farmers improve their competitiveness and to create a group of leaders to advocate on priority issues such as trade, infrastructure improvements, regulatory reform and more.
Each year, IFB choses a different set of issues and a corresponding market to meet the objectives of the tour. Tours are open on an application-only basis to farmer members of Illinois Farm Bureau.
Each participant is expected to return from the tour and share his/her experiences and learnings with others through presentations and media interviews. Participants are also expected to become and remain advocates for IFB positions on priority issues studied on the tour.
